A useful food estimate starts with a correction.
A photo can miss portion size, ingredients and preparation. Treat any photo estimate as a starting point to check.
Identify the actual ingredients
List every component you know is in the meal. Include dressings, oils, sauces, toppings and drinks that may be outside the photograph. A decorative sample photograph is not evidence of a recipe.
Use the right portion basis
Check whether a label gives values per serving or per 100 grams. For a per-100-gram entry, the calculation is portion grams ÷ 100 × nutrient value. Keep raw and cooked weights consistent with your source. The preview calculator uses this arithmetic with values you enter.
Choose a credible source
Use the product’s nutrition label or a suitable entry in a source such as USDA FoodData Central. Preparation and product formulation can differ, so choose the closest documented match. The preview’s initial figures are illustrative fixtures, not a verified database extract.
Keep the uncertainty visible
You may not know every ingredient or portion. Record what you do know, correct it when you learn more, and avoid treating the total as an exact measurement. For clinical dietary needs, seek advice from a qualified professional. This guide is not expert-reviewed nutrition advice.
