AI Technical Panel Interview Simulator — practice thinking out loud under three engineers
The Panel puts you across a virtual table from Arjun Mehta, a staff engineer running a panel-style technical interview. He trades off questions with two other engineers, pushes on trade-offs, and does not accept 'it depends' as a final answer.
What the sim recreates
A panel round focused on system design and problem decomposition. Expect open-ended prompts, follow-ups on scale, failure modes, and cost. The persona will let you drive the whiteboard in your head and interrupt only when you get stuck on the wrong branch for too long.
How difficulty changes this particular round
What moves here is how much silence you're allowed. On Warm-up you can think first and speak second. On Realistic the reasoning has to happen out loud, at conversational pace, because that is what a panel is actually judging. On Nightmare a hand-wave gets stopped within seconds, capacity and latency claims get turned into arithmetic on the spot, and a design choice you made in minute two gets held up against one you make in minute seven.
What your Sim Report grades
Design rounds are won on framing before they are won on architecture, so the report weights whether you clarified requirements first, whether your numbers were realistic, and whether you changed position when given new information. Each score cites the exact sentence where you either committed to a trade-off or avoided one.
Frequently asked
›Do I need to draw diagrams?
No — this is a voice sim. You describe the design out loud, the way you would in a phone screen.
›How deep does it go into system design?
Deep enough for common senior interviews: throughput estimates, storage choices, failure handling, and consistency trade-offs. It does not run coding rounds.
›Can I pause to think?
Yes — use the Pause & breathe control. The persona will wait once, briefly, per pause.
›What if I go completely blank?
You can end the sim early. The Sim Report will still grade the parts you did answer, and mark the round as short.
›Is this useful for FAANG-style loops?
It matches the design portion of most senior loops. Pair it with the senior engineer round for the behavioral half; it does not replace live coding practice.
